IBS and IBD are two common digestive conditions that can cause similar symptoms, such as abdominal pain, cramping, and bloating. However, there are some key differences between the two conditions.
IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, is a disorder that affects the large intestine. IBS is not caused by any underlying disease.
IBS is thought to be caused by a combination of factors, such as:
• Increased sensitivity of the gut • Problems with the way the gut muscles contract • Stress • Food intolerance
IBD, or inflammatory bowel disease, is a group of diseases that cause inflammation in the digestive tract.
IBD is caused by an autoimmune reaction, in which the body's immune system attacks the digestive tract.
There are 2 main types of IBD. Continue reading the webstory to know more about them.
This type of IBD can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus.
